The Business Water Shop came later, out of the water queries our energy clients kept sending us. It was the same story every time. Billing errors, and retailers you couldn’t get hold of. Nobody specialised in putting that right for businesses, so we decided to.
Why water
Most businesses renegotiate their energy every year or two. The water bill just gets paid. That’s where we tend to find the money.
Usually it’s something small. A return to sewer allowance set wrong years ago, or drainage charged on a yard that actually drains to a soakaway. On a single invoice it looks like nothing, which is why it survives for so long.
Refunds can go back six years. We’ve recovered seven figures for UK businesses through this site, and roughly one bill in six we audit has a drainage error in it somewhere.
Where I’ve been
I started out working for suppliers, moved across to brokerages, and eventually ran my own brokerage single-handed. You learn pricing very quickly when your own name is on every quote.
Over that time I’ve worked with more than 10,000 businesses. Single-site SMEs mostly, plus national chains and a handful of international portfolios. Some clients have been with me for 15 years. In this industry, that’s the only number I really rate.
Clearsight Energy exists because I’d seen enough of how this market treats its customers. We’re open about how brokers get paid, including us. And if staying put is the right answer, that’s the answer you’ll get.
What I cover
Water switching, bill audits and refunds, deemed tariffs, trade effluent, surface water drainage and multi-site consolidation. England’s market opened in 2017 and Scotland’s in 2008, and the two still differ enough to catch people out.
